The Garmin Rino 130 is the most feature-rich unit in the Rino family, with a built-in electronic compass, barometric sensor, weather receiver for seven NOAA weather channels, and 24 MBs of internal memory. This handheld radio has a built-in electronic compass to give a heading while the user is standing still, and a barometric altimeter to provide extremely accurate elevation and pressure information, which will assist users in identifying weather trends and fishing opportunities.

The Rino 130 provides two-way radio communication with a transmission range of up to two miles using FRS channels and up to five miles with GMRS. The integration of two-way radio and GPS enables users to transmit their position with a simple button press, allowing others to navigate to their position. The Rino 130 also has a polling feature, which allows a user to manually request GPS location information from other Rino units.

The Rino 130 offers a detailed Basemap of North and South America, displaying cities, highways, railways, rivers and lakes, and borders. And because of the unit’s robust internal memory, it can store map data from a variety of Garmin MapSource® CD products, including U.S. Topo 24K™, U.S. Topo™, Recreational Lakes™, BlueChart®, and MetroGuide

Garmin Rino Position Reporting

The Garmin Rino's exclusive position reporting feature allows you to send and receive GPS positions from other Rino® users so you can keep track of your friends on skiing or camping trips, sporting events, and other outdoor adventures.

Rinos transmit a user's position through the FRS spectrum.

Position information can be transmitted to any other Rino user within a two-mile range.

The image to the right shows an example of four people keeping track of each other's positions using a Rino 130.

How Garmin Rino Position Reporting works

Position reporting can be activated using either the "call" or "talk" keys. When the "call" key is released, it activates the Position Reporting function, sending your current GPS location to other Rinos.

Position Reporting Function

New Contact Page

Map Page

When the call is received by another Rino, the New Contact page is displayed showing the ID, direction, and distance of the sender. The sender's position is also displayed on the receiving unit's map page. Locations are updated every second, and you can transmit your location to others once every 10 seconds.

This could be a life-saving feature in an outdoor emergency -or it could be used simply for rounding up the family at an amusement park or outdoor resort.
